In the lead-up to the show's release, HBO has been teasing fans with casting news and character descriptions for those featured in House of the Dragon's 10-episode first season, which is based on George R.R. Martin's novel Fire & Blood. The new series takes place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and is expected to tell the story of House Targaryen. King Viserys' cousin Rhaenys is a Targaryen princess and dragonrider, who married Lord Corlys and has two children with him, Laena and Laenor.
Why can’t I build a plot in Manor Lords?

Season two is set to build upon the narrative of its successor, which ended on a massive cliffhanger. The two Targaryen siblings, namely Rhaenyra and Aegon, were seemingly on the cusp of war until one of Rhaenyra’s sons was brutally murdered by Aegon’s brother. The second season will depict the aftermath of this event and will majorly highlight Rhaenyra’s response to the loss of her offspring. We're moving on to the actors who were announced in previous press releases, starting with Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull. Salim was in the HBO series Raised by Wolves from 2020 to 2022, which is where American fans are most likely to recognize him from. He will play another dragonseed named Alyn from the town of Hull on the island of Driftmark – the domain of House Velaryon.

‘House of the Dragon’: Everything We Know About the ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel
Olivia Cooke has had many roles in horror and drama films and TV series including Bates Motel, Ouija, Thoroughbreds, Sound of Metal, and Ready Player One. The first born child of King Viserys, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen has been selected as his heir despite the Targaryen’s history of patriarchal lineage. Her pure Valyrian blood makes her a natural dragonrider, like her uncle, Prince Daemon, but the fact that she is a woman makes her path to the throne less certain. While this may be Alcock’s first major role in American television, she’s appeared in Australian miniseries The Gloaming and Pine Gap, which can be watched in the U.S. on Starz and Netflix respectively. The adult Princess Rhaenyra is played by Emma D’Arcy, who you may recognize from the short-lived Prime Video series Truth Seekers and the Netflix original Wanderlust. House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO.
Disney Lorcana introduces the rest of Encanto’s Madrigal family
He has made a number of movie and TV appearances, including notably the ITV adaptation of Graham Norton's novel Holding. Fox joins as Ser Gwayne Hightower, son of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), brother to Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke), and uncle to King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), Queen Helaena (Phia Saban), and Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). See who actors Simon Russell Beale, Freddie Fox, Gayle Rankin, and Abubakar Salim are playing. Head of house Velaryon at this time, husband to Rhaenys, and a fierce pirate who will eventually ally himself with Rhaenyra.
Even through this apparent power grab, Rhaenys clearly still had compassion for her family, expressing concern at Viserys' declining health. During House of the Dragon, Rhaenys and Corlys propose their young daughter Laena marry Viserys, however, the King instead opted for Alicent Hightower. The couple had three children, Aegon, Aemond, and Helaena, but none were named heir to the Iron Throne, with Rhaenyra holding that honor. Although initially Alicent wasn't bothered by this, she became convinced Rhaenyra was plotting against her family, and, as such, conspired to have Aegon named as heir. The prince was not loyal in his marriage to Rhaenyra, however, the pair did have two children, Prince Aegon the Younger and Prince Viserys. While generally kind-hearted and a peaceful man, with a distinct hatred of conflict, Viserys certainly had his moments of rage across the debut season.
Taylor is best known for playing Jake Chambers in the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower, alongside Idris Elba as the Gunslinger. Now 22 years old, Taylor has several other credits to his name and he is stepping into a much more mature role. Plotting family members hungry for power are a mainstay of Westeros and everywhere in Game of Thrones, and Otto ranks somewhere in the middle of them. He’s certainly no Tywin Lannister or Olenna Tyrell, but he’s better fit to help maneuver his daughter Alicent and her son Aegon toward the Iron Throne than most. Like many of Westeros’ best schemers, Otto also served as Hand of the King during the rule of Viserys.

By now fans have seen House Strong's entanglements with the Targaryens go tragically awry. Viserys' advisor Lyonel and Rhaenyra's lover Harwin were both killed by arson in Season 1, leaving the spymaster Larys in control of the family's wealth while he serves Alicent at King's Landing. Gwayne actually jousted against Ser Criston Cole in the book version, so there's no telling what other changes are coming for his character. Tom Taylor takes on the highly anticipated role of Cregan Stark, the Lord of Winterfell at the time of this series.
Aegon was Viserys and Alicent's first child together, making him the heir to Viserys' throne in many people's eyes. However, he is seemingly indifferent to his responsibilities, preferring instead to drink and harass women working in the castle. He tried to flee King's Landing before he was crowned the new King by Otto and Alicent. As of the series finale, she is poised for the impending civil war with Alicent's family. The 10-episode first season of “House of the Dragon” will debut on August 21 with weekly releases. While Season 2 of the “Thrones” prequel has not been officially confirmed, HBO and HBO Max chief Casey Bloys told Variety that “it’s probably a pretty good bet” that the network will order a second season of the show.
Though he is the brother of King Viserys, Daemon resents the throne because Viserys refused to allow him to gift a dragon egg to his lover, Mysaria. Daemon is one of the greatest warriors in Westeros at this time and rides the dragon Caraxes. Daemon is also the uncle of Rhaenyra and will later become her husband, just one of his many marriages — though Mysaria stays by his side the whole time. He’ll likely be something of a Jamie Lannister-type in this series, though with a whole lot more ambition. Rhaenyra Targaryen is the oldest child of King Viserys and was born of his first wife, Aemma Arryn, and is his heir.
Coryls did eventually come back to King's Landing after the arrangement was made for Rhaenyra and Laenor to be married, thus placing his future grandchildren in line for the Iron Throne after Rhaenyra's intended rule. This led to a dispute between the families which was eventually resolved through the wedding of Rhaenyra and Laenor - the son of Rhaenys and Corlys. Eve Best's Rhaenys held the nickname of "The Queen Who Never Was" after a change in Jaehaerys' heir deprived her of her claim to the throne. Wife to the Master of Ships, Lord Corlys Velaryon, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen is the cousin to King Viserys and the granddaughter of his predecessor on the Iron Throne, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen. Although Rhaenyra Targaryen has not taken the Iron Throne, and she may never will, she has been referred to by the title of queen given how she contests the rule of her half-brother Aegon I Targaryen. King Viserys Targaryen served as the central figure of House of the Dragon, as much of the Game of Thrones prequel revolved around the issue of succession and specifically who would inherit the Iron Throne after his passing.
Viserys' wife and Rhaenyra's mother Aemma (who deserved so much better) is played by Brooke, a British actress who trained with the National Youth Theatre and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She's best known for playing Elizabeth in the fourth season of Sherlock, Deidre Young in Prime Video's Good Omens, and Karen in the Apple TV+ series Trying. Considine is a British actor and director who's best known for a series of indie films in the 'oos.
Like the original HBO series, “House of the Dragon” introduces many newer faces to U.S. television screens, filling its cast with actors well-known abroad for their work in the U.K. It also boasts Emmy nominee Matt Smith from “The Crown” and “The Amazing Spider-Man’s” Rhys Ifans among its main cast. The younger brother of Ser Harwin, Larys Strong is brought into the King’s court by his father. Larys is played by Matthew Needham, who has had small roles in Chernobyl, Sherlock, and Doctor Who. The younger brother of King Viserys, Prince Daemon is a fierce warrior and dragonrider who seeks the power of the crown for himself. Aside from Doctor Who, Matt Smith has also starred in The Crown, Edgar Wright’s latest film Last Night in Soho, and Morbius.
