Baela and Rhaena are the daughters of Daemon and Laena Velaryon, born during the 10 year time jump before episode 6. In their younger timeline, they're played by Smethurst (seen left) and Ossei-Gerning (right). HotD is Smethurst's first major role, though she was previously credited in a 2018 screen adaptation of Twelfth Night. Ossei-Gerning previously starred in the BBC web series My Petsaurus, and the British series The Snow Spider.

He's Dornish, a common-born man who is the son of the current steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. He makes up for his lack of any claim to land or titles with his impressive swordplay and his own personal honor. He was once a paramour of Rhaenyra; having been spurned, he's now a close ally of Alicent Hightower. Queen Alicent Hightower is Otto's daughter and was married to Viserys before his death. Being the daughter of the Hand of the King, she's enjoyed many privileges throughout her life. Raised within the Red Keep (the castle in King's Landing) and amongst King Viserys's trusted inner circle, Alicent is both beautiful and politically minded, and champions her own family's right to rule.
Paddy Considine as Viserys Targaryen
She was the first Scottish student ever to study at the Juilliard School in New York City. To some fans, even Rankin's age is a massive revelation when it comes to Alys Rivers. Regan is a great choice for this role with plenty of experience playing sword-wielding heroes. The 58-year-old actor played the Captain in 300, Eudorus in Troy and King Cepheus in Clash of the Titans. He has held plenty of other roles both in and out of armor, but right now fantasy fans would most likely recognize him for playing Vice Admiral Garp in the Netflix live-action adaptation of One Piece.
Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon a.k.a. “The Sea Snake”
What is dead may never die, and thus, the world of “Game of Thrones” will live on at HBO with prequel series “House of the Dragon,” premiering on HBO on August 21. Season 2 has yet to set an official release date but has been filming in the UK for several weeks now and is expected to wrap production between September and October 2023. Mysaria debuted early in House of the Dragon as a pleasure house worker visited by Prince Daemon, who she developed something of a relationship with. But she eventually left him after losing interest in serving as a pawn to further his goals of taking the Iron Throne. After King Viserys' passed up Corlys' proposition that he marry his daughter Laena, the Master of Ships departed King's Landing.
I suspect that the strategy set-up will take up much of this second season, but unlike with the book, Rhaenyra might even leave Dragonstone to participate. And we will literally see fire rain down from the sky when the two sides have to force allegiance from reluctant settlements. During this Targaryen Civil War, George R.R. Martin killed off half the population of Westeros and, as noted previously, nearly every member of the blondest family. However, the HBO series has already tweaked parts of the book, so there’s no reason to believe that everything will go down as Martin wrote in the lore.
Cast — who is in House of the Dragon Season 2?
Daughter of the Hand, Alicent Hightower is played by Emily Carey in her youth and by Olivia Cooke as an adult. Because of her father’s position, Alicent was raised in the Red Keep and grew up as a friend to Princess Rhaenyra. House of the Dragon isn’t the first time that Emily Carey has played the younger version of a strong and powerful woman. She also appears as the 12 year-old version of Diana in 2017’s Wonder Woman and as the 14 year-old version of Lara Croft in the 2018 Tomb Raider film adaptation.
How to make sense of House of the Dragon’s latest trailer and all its characters

The drama — from creators George R.R. Martin (author of the “Game of Thrones” book series) and Ryan Condal — will look back 200 years before the events of “Thrones,” when House Targaryen ruled Westeros and held the Iron Throne. Graham McTavish has a lot of dark fantasy experience, having appeared in The Witcher and Castlevania. In House of the Dragon, he plays Ser Harrold, who "has served in the Kingsguard since the days of King Jaehaerys; he is a paragon of chivalry and honor." Eve Best will play dragonrider Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, the wife of Toussaint's Lord Corlys Velaryon. She is defined as "The Queen Who Never Was" because she was "passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council" because "the realm favored her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male." House Targaryen is responsible for giving us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen, and now there is a new lineup of characters emerging, ready to breathe fresh life into the onscreen Game of Thrones universe.
Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Targaryen
Jefferson Hall has the unusual task of playing two separate Lannisters, as he will be appearing as twins Lord Jason Lannister and Tyland Lannister. Per HBO, "Jason is the Lord of Casterly Rock. Tyland Lannister is a crafty and calculating politician." Collider notes that the relationship between Rhaenyra and Alicent sours to the point that they "become fierce rivals" in Fire & Blood, "both vying for the honor of claiming the throne for themselves and their own heirs." Emma D'Arcy will transform into Targaryen royalty, as she poses as the elder version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. The first images from the set of House of the Dragon spotlighted her as one of the key cast members pictured alongside Matt Smith's Prince Daemon Targaryen at an undisclosed beach location.

After working as a stage actor, he was catapulted to international fame while playing the Eleventh Doctor in the long-running sci-fi series Doctor Who. He then went on to play Prince Philip in the first two seasons of Netflix's The Crown. He's also appeared in the films Terminator Genisys (alongside his Thrones descendant Emilia Clarke), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Last Night in Soho, and Morbius.

Queen Alicent and Otto Hightower will definitely begin to see consequences of their long game, and Rhaenyra will be coming for the Iron Throne with Blood and Cheese (wait for them, oh boy) paving the way. With that said, this series has been plotted out for four seasons, and that plan could change, but it’s unlikely that we will see the entire war take place in Season 2. Hopefully, we will at least see the inevitable showdown between Daemon and (Mini-Me) Aemond, and if that plot point follows the Fire and Blood book, both men should be very afraid. The second season of the celebrated series was confirmed by its makers just five days after the premiere of the opening edition. Despite the quick renewal, the follow-up installment is set to be released a whole two years after its predecessors.

Prior to his death, Viserys appointed his only daughter from his first marriage, Rhaenyra Targaryen, as his heir. However, he was ultimately succeeded by Aegon II Targaryen, the first child of his marriage to Alicent Hightower. Obviously, the show will continue to track the Targaryen lineage about 300 years prior to near-extinction level on Game of Thrones.
While House of the Dragon is Grihault's first credit, child actor Sadler previously appeared on the Apple TV+ comedy Trying. Known as the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms, Harwin "Breakbones" Strong is heir to Harrenhal and a member of the City Watch. Though he doesn't join the suitors wishing to become Rhaenyra's husband, the pair do have a couple of encounters that build to an affair in the time period between episodes 5 and 6. Over the decade, he becomes Lord Commander of the City Watch and the assumed father of Rhaenyra's three sons. King Viserys succeeded his grandfather Jaehaerys on the throne, having been voted in during The Great Council at Harrenhal.
Rhaenyra is supported by her uncle and later husband, Daemon Targaryen, as well as her former mother-in-law, Rhaenys Velaryon. Though she is supposed to be next in line for the throne, not everyone will support her claim. Before we get into the characters themselves, it’s worth remembering what the Dance of Dragons, the brief and bloody Targaryen civil war that House of the Dragon chronicles, was actually about. The prequel series’ latest trailer, released on Thursday, already throws a few names at viewers and gives them a whole lot of pale, blond people to keep track of. To help you get a sense of where the show’s going, and what’s even happening in the trailer, here are the characters we’ve seen so far and where they’re at in the beginning of the story. Mellos is a voice of reason amidst the more crafty and calculating members of the King’s court.
Ser Otto Hightower served as the Hand of the King to Viserys, a loyal servant of the realm. Milly Alcock (Upright) played a younger version of Princess Rhaenyra in the earlier parts of the first season. Set hundreds of years prior to the events of HBO's original fantasy saga, House of the Dragon season one transported us to a Westeros that was still ruled by the Targaryens and their closest allies. The House of the Dragon cast swelled to include a long list of prominent figures as the action played out in the lead-up to the Dance of Dragons that's coming in House of the Dragon season 2. Thrones fans may recall when young Shireen Baratheon and Ser Davos briefly discuss the battle as she reads a history book about it.
When we meet her in episode 6, she's expecting her third child and wants to return to her ancestral home Driftmark, and most of all she wants to live and die as a dragonrider. The daughter of Corlys and Rhaenys, Laena is introduced as a 12-year-old noble (and potential bride for King Viserys) early in the show. She's later present at the wedding of her brother Laenor and Rhaenyra, where she gets flirty with Daemon. Macmillian is a British actor and writer who has a prolific career across the stage and screen. He began his film career with appearances in Hollywood films including Hanna, The Dark Knight Rises, World War Z, and Maleficent.
Game of Thrones is based on Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, but House of the Dragon is based on his “history” book, Fire & Blood. The book is credited as written by an Archmaester of Westeros, with various accounts on what happened during the Targaryen reign. Even after the death of King Viserys when he was ordered by Otto Hightower to assassinate Rhaenyra at Dragonstone, Westerling resigned from his post in defiance of the order and the Hightowers' attempted power grab. She later took on the name of the White Worm and formed a spy network, often working for the likes of Otto Hightower and even being instrumental in finding Prince Aegon so he could take the Iron Throne after Viserys' death. This began Criston's new era of intense loyalty to Alicent, even supporting her son Aegon's claim to the Iron Throne, with him even being the one to personally crown the new King after Viserys' death.
